Sandeep Lamichhane remand extended

There has been no end to Sandeep Lamichhane’s troubles as a Kathmandu court on Monday extended the remand of the country’s most high-profile cricketer by seven days. He will be in police custody during this time and will face interrogation over charges of rape.

“There is a prima facie case against Sandeep,” a spokesman for the Kathmandu Police told Cricbuzz on Monday. Lamichhane (23) has been slapped with charges of rape by a minor and he has since been suspended by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), the country’s official cricket body.

This is the highest-profile case in Nepal and comes close on the heels of a similar case, against actor Paul Shah, which rocked the tiny Himalayan Nation last month. Shah was convicted and sentenced to a jail term of two and half years for molesting a minor girl.
