Rise of Pujara in English County Season

I have always been a fan of technically sound batsmen rather than the hitters. One such player is Cheteshwar Pujara and I enjoy his batting. He is one of the best test players at the international level. He averages 43.87 with a total run scored is 6713 in 95 matches.

In recent times he was lacking in form and was dropped from the international side. In the last three years, he averages just 26.45 with a total run scored is 873 in 18 matches. He also went unsold in the 2022 IPL Auction.

But BCCI approved him to be a part of the English County Season for the Team Sussex. Pujara has been a part of English county since 2014 and represented three teams before making his debut for Sussex in 2022. He has represented Derbyshire (2014), Yorkshire (2015 & 2018) and Nottinghamshire (2017). Before making his debut for Sussex, he has scored 988 runs in 36 innings at an average of 29.33 including three centuries and three half-centuries.

In the 2022 County Championship Pujara made his debut for Sussex against Derbyshire and scored just 6 runs from 15 balls in the first innings. But he made a comeback and scored 201* runs from 387 balls. The partnership between Tom Hains and Cheteshwar Pujara’s 351 runs from 713 balls helped them to draw the match. In this season Pujara has scored 717 runs in seven innings at an average of 143.40, four hundred which includes two double centuries. He is holding second place in most runs scored in this tournament just behind Sean Robert Dickson who has scored 729 runs in 9 innings.

The hard work behind this successful comeback of Pujara shows his integrity and his love for the sport. As a team India fan and on behalf of all Indian team fans, I wish him all the best for his future matches.

When most of the cricket fans around the world are busy watching IPL Pujara is quietly doing what he does best :clap:t3::clap:t3::handshake: scoring hundred after hundred in the English conditions. This is not an easy task for him after what he has went through, first of all Kudos to him for pick him up and take this challenge. India is going to okay that one off test against England and with what he’s doing right now in that condition I can’t think anyone else batting at No.3 for India in that Test.

Exactly, it’s not an easy task to bat in English conditions. The hard work pays off always. It’s common that every player will go through a phase in their span of a career. There is a Judge from Providence(US) named Frank Caprio who used to say ‘When life knocks you down it is not your fault, but refusing to get yourself up to fight is your fault’.

Really good write-up about Che Puj and a timely one too! I’m sure he has done enough to be included in that squad for the ‘final test’ (or the one-off test) against England in July.
