On this day in 2007: After an early exit from the 2007 ODI World Cup in the West Indies, no one really gave a chance to the Indian team. That is the reason that most of the senior players opted out of playing in this competition and the captaincy job was handed over to MS Dhoni. That was one of the best masterstrokes in the history of Indian cricket. Because that has totally changed the face of Indian cricket. Dhoni led the team to the glory of the T20 World Cup in 2007 and became the inaugural season winner. India beat arch-rivals Pakistan in the final with a dramatic finish to claim the trophy. No one gave a chance to that Indian team, especially with the bowlers like Joginder Sharma & Sreesanth who used to be expensive bowlers, Thala managed to pull off the impossible with his smart decision makings.

Incidentally in the final, those two names you mentioned combined to get the wicket of Misbah-ul-haq off the last ball to clinch the win!
Misbah c Sreesanth b Joginder - who’d have thought?!
