India's first test win

India’s first-ever Test victory came against England at Madras in 1952.

Indian cricket team, who played their first-ever Test in 1932 against England at Lord’s, registered their first Test win 20 years and 24 matches after becoming a Test-playing nation. Their first victory came on February 10, 1952, also against England, at Chennai, by an innings and eight runs.

England won the toss and chose to bat first. England was restricted by Indian bowlers to 266 in the 1st innings. Vinoo Mankad took 8 wickets in the first innings. The Indian batsmen Pankaj Roy and Polly Umrigar scored centuries in the match and helped India to score 457/9.

In the second innings, England lost all the wickets for just 183 runs.
